The first-ever Auditors Forum hosted by the Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives) has drawn a stronger response than anticipated, underscoring a growing appetite for knowledge-sharing and reform within the country’s auditing profession.
Held on Saturday and inaugurated by former Auditor General Hassan Ziyath, the one-day event gathered auditors from across the Maldives to explore developments and challenges in the sector. It provided a rare opportunity for professionals to engage in open discussion about the future of the field, including issues related to transparency, innovation, and the evolving expectations placed on auditors.
The turnout exceeded expectations according to CA Maldives, with more interest than the forum could accommodate, signalling the need for more consistent platforms for engagement within the accounting and audit community. For CA Maldives, this outcome validates its approach of creating dedicated forums to enhance the quality and scope of professional dialogue.
The Auditors Forum is the first of five professional events that CA Maldives plans to host this year. Upcoming events include the Tax Forum in partnership with the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the CFO Forum, the IFRS Forum, and the flagship Maldives Accountants Forum. Each forum is designed to address distinct areas within the financial and accounting ecosystem, while reinforcing sector-wide alignment with global standards and expectations.
In addition, the Annual Oceania Standard Setters Group Meeting is scheduled to take place in the Maldives this November. CA Maldives has aligned the IFRS Forum with this international gathering in a move expected to attract broader participation from the region and beyond.
As the country’s audit landscape adapts to increasing demands for quality assurance and financial accountability, initiatives like the Auditors Forum aim to play a key role in professional development. The strong participation in this first forum reflects both the relevance of these issues and the willingness of local professionals to take an active role in shaping the future of their industry.
