Business Center Corporation (BCC) has yesterday opened a new outlet of Authentic Maldives, a store featuring products from local artisans and craftspeople. The outlet, located on Orchid Magu in Male’ City, marks the third Authentic Maldives store to have been opened in the country.
The opening ceremony held on 13th March was graced by Japan’s Ambassador to the Maldives and senior officials from the Economic Ministry and BCC. According to BCC, the store is a significant cog in a larger machine of kickstarting and developing local entrepreneurs and businesses into sustainable and profitable ventures.
In a tweet, Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail commended the BCC team, and stated that this was a great avenue to sell the wares of talented Maldivian artists, especially women.
The first outlet of ‘Authentic Maldives’ was inaugurated in the duty-free area of Velana International Airport in January 2020, exclusively for Maldivian products. It now showcases products from more than 60 different local artists.
The second outlet of ‘Authentic Maldives’ was opened at Centro Mall in Hulhumale’ in November 2020. It showcases products from over 50 local artists.
