Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has introduced a new direct flight service between Baku and the Maldives, with the inaugural flight arriving at Velana International Airport this morning at 9:45 a.m. The launch was marked with a welcoming ceremony attended by key officials, including Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director and CEO, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.
The new route will operate twice a week, with flights scheduled on Fridays and Sundays using an Airbus B787. This development represents the first direct air connection between Azerbaijan and the Maldives, aimed at providing a streamlined travel option for Azerbaijani tourists interested in visiting the Maldives.
MACL’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mohamed Mihad, highlighted that the new route enhances transport links and improves the travel experience for visitors. The service is expected to contribute to the Maldives’ connectivity, offering more convenient travel options for tourists from Azerbaijan.
Jamil Manizade, Chief Commercial Officer of Azerbaijan Airlines, noted that the new route aligns with the winter season, which is popular among Azerbaijani travellers seeking warmer destinations. He emphasised that the direct connection is intended to support the growing interest in the Maldives as a travel destination.
Tickets for the new route are available on Azerbaijan Airlines’ website, mobile app, and at AZAL ticket offices. The direct flights are intended to provide a time-saving alternative, removing the need for layovers for those travelling to the Maldives.
