On 17 October 2024, beOnd, the world’s first premium leisure airline, marked its one-year anniversary with the unveiling of its second aircraft at Velana International Airport. The event celebrated the airline’s growth over the past year and its commitment to luxury air travel, drawing high-profile attendees, including the Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, Captain Mohamed Ameen, and the Minister of Economic Development & Trade, Mohamed Saeed.
During the celebration, beOnd highlighted its role in elevating the Maldives as a leading destination for premium travel. Over the past year, the airline has introduced exclusive charter and scheduled flights from key international markets, positioning the Maldives as a world-class hub for high-end tourism.
In addition to reflecting on its operational success, beOnd announced its ongoing partnership with the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP). The airline is working to support the recruitment of a local Maldivian intern for a full-time position within the research team, offering an opportunity to gain practical experience in marine science.
beOnd’s CEO, Tero Taskila, expressed pride in the airline’s achievements and shared plans for further expansion. Taskila announced that the introduction of a second aircraft will help meet the growing demand for luxury travel, with the airline aiming to serve over 50 destinations within the next four years. By 2028, beOnd aims to have a fleet of 27 aircraft and employ more than 1,700 people.
“Our journey with the Maldives has been one of shared growth and vision,” Taskila said, affirming the airline’s commitment to helping the Maldives maintain its position as a top-tier luxury destination.
Captain Mohamed Ameen, Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, praised beOnd for enhancing the Maldives’ aviation sector. He noted that the addition of a second aircraft further improves the country’s connectivity and reaffirms its status as a premier luxury destination.
Similarly, Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development & Trade, emphasised the economic benefits of beOnd’s success. He highlighted how the airline’s expansion is expected to create more job opportunities for Maldivians and contribute to the country’s growing economy.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Yooshau Saeed, General Manager of SIMDI Group, recognising the various stakeholders who played a role in beOnd’s success. With plans for continued growth, beOnd remains focused on providing premium travel experiences while contributing to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
