Black Ant Fishing has secured the championship title at the Ooredoo Masrace 2024, held in GDh. Thinadhoo, with an impressive total of 1665.81 points. The annual fishing tournament, now a staple of the Maldivian sports calendar, saw fierce competition among the participating teams.
The tournament, which took place on 23 August 2024, is the second segment of this year’s Masrace series, part of the celebrations for the 19th Anniversary of Ooredoo Maldives. This year’s tournament is being held across three locations: K. Himmafushi, Lh. Naifaru, and GDh. Thinadhoo.
Black Ant Fishing not only took home the championship but also a cash prize of MVR 25,000. The team’s success was further highlighted by team member Abdulla Didi, who won the award for Heaviest Catch with a 7.15 kg Handhi.
The competition saw Team MIB claiming second place with 523.25 points, followed by Hoandedhoo Masverin in third place with 478.85 points. Other notable awards included the Best Fisherman title, awarded to Dhaus Hassan of Hoandedhoo Masverin for catching 12 fish, and the Best Fisherwoman title, shared by Athika Mohamed and Aishath Noofa Ali of Team MIB, who caught 4 fish each.
The event concluded with a series of special awards, celebrating the achievements of the day’s top performers. The success of the event in Thinadhoo sets the stage for the upcoming segments of Masrace 2024, promising more excitement and competition as teams vie for the top honours in the remaining locations.
