Dhiraagu has partnered with the Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM) to raise awareness and support children affected by this critical health issue. The partnership aims to launch a series of educational resources designed to inform the community about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer.
As part of this initiative, Dhiraagu is backing CSM in the creation of a comprehensive toolkit that includes a video series featuring an animated song addressing the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, a survivor’s story, and a doctor-led video emphasising the importance of early detection. This toolkit also targets educators and caregivers, focusing on the post-treatment challenges faced by young cancer survivors. The toolkit was officially unveiled at a special event, attended by key figures from Dhiraagu, CSM, UNICEF Maldives, and the Ministry of Education.
The event highlighted the critical role of the toolkit in supporting educators and caregivers. Speakers emphasised that while raising awareness and promoting early detection are essential in the fight against childhood cancer, ongoing support after diagnosis is equally important. The collaborative efforts of educators and caregivers are crucial in providing children with the resilience and confidence they need to navigate the challenges posed by cancer.
Dhiraagu’s CEO & Managing Director, Mr. Ismail Rasheed, along with Ms. Juwairiya Saeed, Chairperson of CSM, and Mr. Isy Faingold, UNICEF’s Deputy Representative to the Maldives, praised the partnership and the positive impact it will have on families facing childhood cancer. The Minister of State for Education, Mr. Hussain Saeed Mohamed, also expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its alignment with national education and health priorities.
September is globally recognised as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, underscoring the urgent need for awareness and early intervention. According to CSM, childhood cancer cases in the Maldives are among the highest in Asia, with approximately 4-5% of cancer patients being children under the age of 18. By educating parents, caregivers, and educators about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, Dhiraagu and CSM hope to facilitate timely interventions that can significantly enhance treatment success and recovery rates.
Dhiraagu’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is reflected in this partnership, as the company prioritises the inclusion and care of children in its community initiatives. By supporting programs that foster the well-being and development of children, Dhiraagu aims to create a supportive environment that not only raises awareness but also contributes positively to the lives of families impacted by childhood cancer.
Through this partnership, Dhiraagu and CSM are making strides toward a future where all children have the support they need to overcome the challenges of cancer, ensuring that they can continue to enjoy their childhoods despite the obstacles they may face.
