The Medtech-Nipro Hemodialysis Conference & Training officially commenced on 22nd February 2025 at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), bringing together healthcare professionals, nephrology experts, and industry leaders to discuss advancements in dialysis treatment in the Maldives. The conference, organised by Medtech Maldives (Pvt) Ltd in collaboration with Japan’s Nipro Corporation, aims to introduce cutting-edge innovations in dialysis care and improve patient outcomes through global best practices.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Behram A. Khan, Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Executive Director of Renal Health Services, Singapore, who shared insights into personalised dialysis care and global nurse training standards. His presentation highlighted the importance of adopting international protocols to enhance patient health and longevity.
Investment in Advanced Dialysis Technology
Medtech Maldives announced its plans to upgrade dialysis equipment and expand access to remote healthcare centres under an ‘investor finance model’. The company is investing millions of rufiyaa in 2025 to ensure modern dialysis treatment is available across the country, particularly in underserved communities. A key highlight was the introduction of Hemodiafiltration (HDF) technology, which offers improved treatment outcomes for dialysis patients.
Training and Capacity Building Initiatives
Recognising the need for a skilled workforce, Medtech Maldives outlined plans to train over 100 nurses in 2025, following Singapore’s best renal care standards. Additionally, efforts to establish a Nephrology Society were announced, aiming to unite doctors, nurses, patients, and industry stakeholders to create a collaborative healthcare ecosystem for dialysis care.
