The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has announced plans for an investor forum in the Maldives, specifically aimed at attracting Saudi businesses. The announcement was made during his ongoing visit to Saudi Arabia, where he spoke with PSM News.
Minister Saeed revealed that discussions are underway to organise a Saudi-Dutch business forum in the Maldives, which is anticipated to take place in December or January. This forum will provide Saudi businesses and importers with an opportunity to explore investment prospects within the Maldives.
The Minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia is focused on strengthening trade relations between the two countries. As part of his engagements, he met with Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, the Saudi Commerce Minister and Chairman of the General Authority of Foreign Trade. During their discussions, Minister Saeed highlighted that the Saudi government is closely monitoring ongoing development projects in the Maldives, particularly those related to housing and economic growth. The Saudi Commerce Minister assured that Saudi Arabia would provide comprehensive support for these initiatives.
A memorandum of understanding was signed following the meeting, aimed at further enhancing trade and economic relations between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia. Minister Saeed also held discussions with Saudi Investment Minister Ibrahim al-Mubarak, where both parties explored ways to increase investments and create new business opportunities between the two nations.
As part of his visit, the Minister is scheduled to meet with the Saudi Business Association and engage with representatives from Saudi Arabia’s creator economy, further strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
