State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has clarified that electricity bills issued for April 2025 closely resembled those of March in many households due to the continuation of the Ramadan discount.
In a statement released yesterday, the company explained that the special discount—typically applied to bills during the month of Ramadan—was extended into April as an additional relief measure. The decision was prompted by rising temperatures and the expectation of increased electricity usage during the hotter season.
While consumption levels in April varied from March, the bill amounts remained similar for many customers. STELCO attributed this to the continued application of the discount, which was calculated based on the average monthly consumption of the nine months excluding February, March, and April of the previous year.
The company also confirmed that new customers or those without prior billing history were granted a flat 10 percent discount as part of the relief.
STELCO stated that the extension of the discount aimed to ease the financial pressure on households facing higher cooling needs during the hotter period.
