Employers Given More Time to Update Work Site Information Under Expatriate Quota Rules

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has extended the deadline for employers to submit notarised Work Site Declaration Forms required for the issuance and continuation of expatriate employment quotas.

The extension follows requests from employers for additional time to comply with revised procedures introduced under the Regulation on Employment of Foreigners in the Maldives. Under the updated framework, the Ministry now requires a notarised Work Site Declaration Form and an accompanying Declaration to be submitted alongside existing documentation when registering work sites linked to Permanent Quotas through the Xpat System.

The requirement came into effect on 01 January 2026 and applies both to new work site registrations and to sites already registered and issued Permanent Quotas. Employers were initially required to update information for existing sites by 31 January 2026. However, the Ministry has now extended the submission deadline to 01 June 2026.

The Ministry has stated that work sites linked to employers who fail to submit the required documentation by the revised deadline will be suspended.

As part of the updated process, the Ministry has also indicated that it may request additional documentation where clarification is required, including tenancy or lease agreements in cases where work sites are registered at rented properties.
