Maldives Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq had a significant meeting with the President of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC Fund), Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, at the Islamic Development Bank Annual Meeting (IsDBAM) 2024.
The meeting happened during the sideline of the event and provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss bilateral cooperation and ongoing projects.
The meeting showcased the long-standing collaboration between the OPEC Fund and Maldives, which dates back to 1977. Through 24 project loans, the OPEC Fund has provided significant financial support amounting to USD 229.60 million.
During the discussion, Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa and Minister Mohamed Shafeeq talked about various aspects of the existing projects and explored opportunities for further collaboration.
Minister Mohamed Shafeeq expressed gratitude for the OPEC Fund’s longstanding support and highlighted the positive impact of the projects funded by the organization.
He affirmed Maldives’ commitment to strengthen collaboration with the OPEC Fund further, leveraging their expertise and resources to address key development challenges facing the country.
