The Ministry of Transport has announced designated hours for commercial goods transportation during Ramadan, imposing fines for violations under the Road Traffic Act.
According to the ministry’s statement, vehicles found transporting goods outside the permitted hours will face a fine of MVR 750. The schedule varies across two periods of Ramadan:
From the 1st to the 19th day, goods transportation will be allowed from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., while it will be prohibited from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
From the 20th day until the end of Ramadan, the permitted hours will shift to 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with restrictions only between 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The ministry stated that these regulations aim to ease congestion and facilitate smoother traffic flow during the fasting month.
