There was an 8% increase in the imported goods into the country along with a 7% decrease in revenue from the import duties during the month of August.
According to the statistics released by Customs, Rf 2.9 billion worth of goods were imported to the country. this is an 8% increase as compared to the stats from this period last year which was at Rf 2.7 billion. However, the income received via import duties has decreased from Rf 224.4 million from last year to Rf 209.8 million during this period.
In the statement issued by the Customs Authority, the decrease in revenue was because of the decrease in the imports of goods subjected to the import duty.
In contrast to this, the export of fish products has doubled in August compared to July of this year. Although this is an increase in number it is a large decrease when compared with last year’s statistics. The export of fish has seen a decrease from Rf 210 million to Rf 170 million.
