The High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Mr. Munu Mahawar, paid a farewell call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, this morning, marking the conclusion of his tenure of over three years.
During the meeting, Minister Khaleel commended High Commissioner Mahawar for his contributions to enhancing Maldives-India relations. He highlighted the High Commissioner’s efforts in strengthening bilateral ties, fostering people-to-people connections, and facilitating significant initiatives.
The Foreign Minister acknowledged India’s support for transformative projects in the Maldives, including mega infrastructure developments and community-level initiatives. He also noted key milestones achieved during the High Commissioner’s tenure, such as the introduction of the RuPay card, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and local currency trade agreements, which have significantly advanced economic cooperation between the two nations.
High Commissioner Mahawar expressed his gratitude to the Maldivian government for its support and partnership during his tenure. He conveyed confidence in the continued growth and prosperity of the Maldives-India partnership.
The two officials also reflected on notable achievements of the past year, particularly the outcomes of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent State Visit to India.
Minister Khaleel extended his best wishes to High Commissioner Mahawar, expressing hope that he would remain a steadfast advocate for the enduring friendship between the Maldives and India.
