Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have announced the successful conclusion of the “Girls to Code” programme in HA. Dhidhdhoo. The two-month programme, which focused on teaching coding fundamentals to girls aged 10 to 13, aimed to bridge the gender gap in technology and inspire more girls to pursue careers in the field.
The programme trained twenty girls with no prior experience in coding, introducing them to skills in HTML, CSS, Flask, and Python. At the end of the training, participants showcased their learning by creating websites of their own.
A special closing ceremony was held in HA. Dhidhdhoo to celebrate the achievements of the participants. Dhiraagu’s Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, Bishaara Hameed, said, “We believe that the Girls to Code programme empowers young girls to acquire essential skills, ignite interest from an early age, build confidence in their abilities, and find inspiration to explore the tech field further.”
President of Women in Tech Maldives, Nahza Ibrahim, commended the dedication of the participants. “Watching these young girls embrace coding with such enthusiasm and dedication has been truly inspiring. They’ve shown us that with the right support and opportunities, there is no limit to what they can achieve,” she said.
The HA. Dhidhdhoo programme marks the fifth edition of “Girls to Code,” following successful initiatives in Fuvahmulah City, GDh. Thinadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Laamu Atoll. Both Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives reaffirmed their commitment to promoting inclusion and empowerment through technology-focused initiatives.
