
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has awarded infrastructure projects across 14 islands in the Maldives, valued at MVR 1,614.4 million, to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Tuesday.
State Minister Ismail Hameed signed the agreements on behalf of the ministry at an official ceremony, while Managing Director, DCP (Retd) Ahmed Saudhee signed on behalf of MTCC.
The projects cover land reclamation, coastal protection, harbour and port development, artificial beach construction, and road development across multiple atolls. Key land reclamation and coastal protection projects include:
- Henbadhoo, Noonu Atoll: MVR 91.94 million, 10 months
- Holhudhoo, Noonu Atoll: MVR 103.28 million, 15 months
- Kanduhulhudhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll: MVR 183.77 million, 14 months
- Bandidhoo, Dhaalu Atoll: MVR 221.95 million, 2 years
- Maalhendhoo, Noonu Atoll: MVR 63.62 million, 5 months
- Vashafaru, Haa Alifu Atoll: MVR 242.65 million, 18 months
The Vashafaru project will dredge 20 hectares of land and install a 1,694-metre revetment. A 71-metre-long, six-metre-wide concrete bridge will connect the reclaimed land to surrounding areas.
MTCC will also carry out industrial zone land reclamation and coastal protection in Alifushi, Raa Atoll, covering 4.6 hectares at a cost of MVR 106.14 million, to be completed within 14 months. Coastal protection projects include Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll (MVR 24.07 million, 10 months), Gaafaru, Kaafu Atoll (MVR 64.30 million, nine months), and Maafaru, Noonu Atoll (MVR 63.35 million, 13 months).
Harbour and port developments include Ungoofaaru Port, Raa Atoll, involving 457 metres of road embankment, 4,097 metres of fencing and 507 metres of outer embankment at MVR 139.73 million over two years. Haa Alifu Atoll Muraidhoo Port outer canal development will include a 445-metre canal, concrete jetty and street lighting, valued at MVR 54.80 million with an 11-month timeline.
The artificial beach development in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, includes an 80-metre groin and a 46-metre outer canal, at MVR 54.80 million, scheduled for seven months.
MTCC has also been awarded the second phase of the Faresmathoda road project in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The work covers 36 roads with drainage systems, signboards and street lighting, valued at MVR 255.21 million and expected to be completed within three years.
The awarded projects form part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure, improve connectivity, and enhance coastal resilience across the Maldives.
