Health Minister Highlights Digital Transformation in Healthcare at IHD2025

Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, has reiterated the administration’s commitment to leveraging digital advancements to improve healthcare services nationwide. Speaking at the International Health Dialogue 2025 (IHD2025), part of the 12th International Patient Safety Conference (IPSC) in New Delhi, India, Minister Nazim highlighted the role of technology in enhancing patient care and safety.

The conference, organised by Apollo Hospitals from 21 to 22 February, featured a series of panel discussions, debates, and paper presentations exploring the intersection of healthcare and technology. Addressing the forum, Minister Nazim emphasised the potential of digital healthcare systems in delivering safer and more efficient medical services, reducing human errors, and raising overall healthcare standards.

As part of these efforts, the minister announced plans to introduce a digital health blueprint framework aimed at expanding healthcare access and ensuring comprehensive patient care. He highlighted the Maldives’ existing digital platforms for primary healthcare and vaccination, positioning the country as a regional leader in digital health solutions.

While acknowledging the benefits of digitalisation, Minister Nazim also addressed challenges such as data security and patient privacy, stressing the importance of a strong cybersecurity framework and continuous monitoring of digital systems.

In an interview with Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), he reaffirmed the significance of integrating technology into healthcare, particularly in geographically dispersed nations like the Maldives. “Technology is the way forward for healthcare, especially for countries like the Maldives, where communities are scattered across small islands,” he noted.
