The Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) has commenced fieldwork for the Labour Force Survey 2025, with enumerators visiting randomly selected households in Malé City, Hulhumalé, and Villimalé from 15 to 21 June.
In a press release, the bureau stated that enumerators will collect data throughout the week, including from some households that participated in previous labour force surveys. The MBS has urged all selected households to cooperate, as many have done in the past.
MBS has also assured the public that all identifying information collected during the survey will be kept strictly confidential and will not be disclosed.
The Labour Force Survey aims to identify the national labour force and collect detailed statistics on employment and unemployment. It also seeks to examine economic activity, household production, and migration patterns for population projections. The survey further provides data for the Decent Jobs Indicator and helps monitor the Maldives’ progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Enumerators will gather a wide range of information, including demographic details, educational background, employment status, unemployment experiences, migration history, household production activities, and volunteer work.
The MBS encourages selected households to participate actively in the survey, noting that the data will play a crucial role in shaping national employment policies and informing development planning.
