The Internal Audit Association of Maldives (IAA Maldives) has been formally established, marking a significant step in enhancing governance, accountability, and professional standards in the country’s internal auditing sector.
IAA Maldives was officially registered on 1st September 2024 and has since experienced rapid growth, attracting over 70 members from various industries. The newly formed association aims to provide a unified platform for internal auditors while promoting capacity-building, collaboration, and advocacy to align the profession with international standards.
On 16th February 2025, IAA Maldives successfully conducted its first Executive Committee (EXCO) election, with an impressive 97% voter turnout. This high level of participation reflects the dedication and engagement of internal audit professionals in shaping the future of their industry.
The establishment of IAA Maldives is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening internal controls, improving corporate governance, and enhancing financial oversight in both the public and private sectors. The association’s mission includes advancing professional knowledge-sharing, promoting ethical standards, and providing development opportunities for internal auditors.
With the formation of its first elected leadership, IAA Maldives now plans to focus on fostering strong industry partnerships, encouraging the adoption of international internal audit standards, and ensuring its members have access to resources and training to meet evolving industry demands.
IAA Maldives aims to empower internal auditors to drive efficiency, transparency, and accountability across all sectors in the Maldives, positioning them as vital contributors to institutional integrity and governance.
