The number of international flights to the Maldives has risen during the first quarter of the year, reflecting the uptick in tourist arrivals during the same period.

Figures published by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) show that international airlines operated 4,880 flights to the Maldives in the first three months of 2025, compared to 4,628 flights during the same period last year. Scheduled flights accounted for the bulk of these operations. A total of 4,444 scheduled flights landed in the Maldives during the first quarter, up 7.3 percent from 4,141 in the first quarter of 2024.

Despite the rise in international traffic, general flight movements declined slightly. MMA’s data shows 436 general flights were recorded in the first quarter of this year, compared to 487 flights in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the tourism sector continues to show growth. According to the Ministry of Tourism, 866,462 tourists had visited the Maldives as of May, reflecting an eight percent year-on-year increase. On average, 6,877 tourists arrive in the country each day, based on the Ministry’s latest statistics.

The figures indicate continued strength in the Maldives’ tourism market, with growing connectivity through scheduled international flights playing a key role in sustaining arrival numbers.
