Intour Maldives Marks 28 Years by Adopting 28 Sea Turtles

Intour Maldives, a leading luxury destination management company (DMC) in the Maldives, has celebrated its 28th anniversary by adopting 28 sea turtles – one for every year in service. Launched in partnership with the Olive Ridley Project (ORP), Intour Maldives has pledged to adopt a sea turtle every year as part of its broader environmental plan introduced last year.

In a press release shared on Wednesday, Intour Maldives stated the pledge reflects the company’s belief in combining luxury travel with sustainable practices, ensuring the preservation of the Maldives’ biodiversity for future generations. The Olive Ridley Project is well known for its efforts in rescuing and rehabilitating sea turtles, especially those affected by ghost nets. Intour Maldives’ collaboration with ORP highlights its strong focus on environmental responsibility, even while it leads the way in luxury eco-conscious tourism.

Ali Firaq, Managing Director of Intour Maldives, shared his thoughts on the initiative, stating, “As we celebrate 28 years of success, we want to give back to the environment that has helped make the Maldives one of the world’s most desirable destinations. The adoption of 28 sea turtles is our contribution towards marine conservation and to support the vital work of the Olive Ridley Project.”

In addition to adopting sea turtles, Intour Maldives has earned a 4 out of 5 rating in the EarthCheck Evaluate programme, becoming the first tourism-related administrative office in the Maldives to do so. This certification emphasises the company’s leadership in sustainable tourism, with efforts spanning from energy conservation to responsible waste management.

The EarthCheck certification further cements Intour Maldives’ role as a pioneer in eco-conscious luxury travel, proving that sustainability and high-end tourism can coexist harmoniously.

The 28th anniversary celebration, held in collaboration with Four Seasons Maldives, was marked by appreciation from key industry figures. Mr Armando Kraenzlin, Regional Vice President of Four Seasons Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, praised Intour Maldives for its sustainability efforts, saying, “Your commitment to luxury travel and marine conservation truly sets you apart. We look forward to celebrating many more milestones together.”

Alongside these sustainability efforts, the company has launched a new website and published its annual luxury travel brochure, both designed to enhance the client experience while remaining focused on environmental protection.
