Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) recently presented merit awards to four outstanding students from the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) as part of the company’s annual social responsibility initiative.
The MACL Merit Award is granted to two female and two male students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their grade 11 studies at CHSE. Recipients received a laptop, a data package, and a monthly allowance of MVR 2,000 for one year. Additionally, awardees can gain work experience and training at Velana International Airport, operated by MACL.
A ceremony at CHSE featured the presentation of awards to this year’s recipients:
- Ibrahim Rifaau
- Hassan Layaan Mohamed
- Afaaf Ahmed Musthafa
- Aishath Eeshal Ahmed Aslam
MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed conferred the awards.
During the event, CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed highlighted the merit award as part of MACL’s commitment to social responsibility, aiming to elevate education standards in the Maldives. He hoped the recognition would inspire students to excel in their studies and emphasised the increasing employment opportunities at Velana International Airport.
CHSE Principal Aishath Safoora acknowledged the award’s significance within the school community, marking the first time students received recognition from a company. She expressed gratitude to MACL’s senior leadership for introducing the practice at CHSE.
In addition to the MACL Merit Award, MACL has initiated cash awards for the overall best student at CHSE starting this academic year. In July of the current year, MACL and CHSE formalised this arrangement by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), extending the program for three years. Aligned with MACL’s social responsibility agenda, this initiative represents a significant step towards encouraging students and supporting the development of operational leaders for the country.
