MACL Confirms Three Major Land Reclamation Projects to Meet Deadlines

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has assured that its three ongoing major land reclamation projects will be completed on schedule, CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Sharif Mohammed said.

He made the remarks during a ceremony in Haa Alifu Atoll, Dhidhdhoo, yesterday to inaugurate the dredging work for the development of Dhidhdhoo Airport, housing, and other essential services. The project was formally opened by Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer, alongside Dhidhdhoo Parliamentary Member Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Dhidhdhoo Council President Abdulla Rasheed.

Shareef noted that the Dhidhdhoo land reclamation project is expected to boost the local economy, expand infrastructure, and increase regional opportunities. MACL has introduced the trailing suction hopper dredger Leiv Eiriksson, one of the world’s largest and most advanced dredgers, with a simultaneous dredging capacity of 46,000 cubic metres. The project aims to reclaim 111 hectares of land, supporting airport expansion, residential development, and essential services.

Speaking at the event, CEO Shareef highlighted the significance of the project for the island, encouraging residents to leverage the new opportunities and transform Dhidhdhoo into a regional hub.
