Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has conducted a dedicated information session for hearing-impaired employees, ensuring they are fully briefed on the operations of the soon-to-open New Passenger Terminal at Velana International Airport.
The session was attended by 16 MACL employees with hearing impairments, who were welcomed by CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. The programme included guided tours of the new terminal and interactive Q&A sessions to help familiarise the staff with the new work environment.
Interpretation support was provided by Saeed Athuharu, Director of Finance and Interpreter from the Deaf Association of Maldives, enabling clear and effective communication throughout the event.
Staff members expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Housekeeper Suzna Mohammed Saeed described the terminal as “very beautiful” and said she was happy to make the move to a larger and more welcoming facility. Technical support staff member Ahmed Ashfaq remarked that the visit helped clarify many aspects of the new terminal, adding that greater accessibility can be achieved with dedicated support personnel.
The session forms part of MACL’s wider efforts to build an inclusive workplace. The company currently runs internship programmes tailored to individuals with disabilities, and this session reflects a systematic approach to inclusive employment.
As MACL prepares to begin operations in the new terminal, the company has reinforced its commitment to accessibility and equitable workplace practices by ensuring all employees, regardless of ability, have the tools and knowledge needed to contribute to its future operations.
