Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is set to introduce the advanced “towbarless” truck service at Velana International Airport (VIA), as part of ongoing efforts to elevate the quality and efficiency of airside operations.
The TPX-200MTX model, renowned for its high performance in aircraft servicing, will be deployed to support VIA’s expanding operational capacity. According to MACL, this cutting-edge truck, already in use at major international airports such as Heathrow, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore, delivers swift, safe, and efficient services. It significantly improves visibility for operators and is compatible with all aircraft from code C to code E.
By incorporating the TPX-200MTX into its ground operations, MACL expects to boost operational efficiency by up to 60 percent, expediting aircraft refuelling and transport services. The truck is also praised for its low operating costs and minimal maintenance requirements.
According to Ali Shareef, Head of Ramp Services at MACL, the introduction of the new truck is expected to enhance safety standards and significantly reduce aircraft turnaround times. This initiative aligns with MACL’s broader objective of delivering seamless and modern aviation services.
MACL has already trained eight specialised operators to manage the new vehicle and is currently conducting a comprehensive risk assessment to ensure safe deployment.
As the operator of Velana International Airport, MACL continues to strengthen its infrastructure and service offerings for both aircraft and passengers. The introduction of the tow-wireless truck comes amid swift progress on the construction of VIA’s new terminal, which is set to open on July 26 of this year.
