The new seaplane terminal built at Velana International Airport (VIA) has been shown to the media.
The seaplane terminal has been built under the VIA development project, which is the largest infrastructure project of its kind in the Maldives. The seaplane terminal has been constructed at a cost of USD 55 million.
The new seaplane terminal consists of 4 floors, each of which span 7000 hectares. As per MACL, this terminal will allow 4 operators to operate conveniently with ease.
International aviation standards prohibit the existence of building-like facilities in the runway and a area with a certain distance. The new seaplane terminal was given high priority under the airport development project as the new runway can be opened once the old seaplane terminal is cleared.
Seaplane services are currently provided by Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA), Manta Air and Maldivian.
