MACL Signs Crisis Management Agreements with Police and MNATS

Maldives Airports Company Limited has signed new agreements with the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Air Traffic Services to strengthen crisis management arrangements at Velana International Airport.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen on behalf of the Maldives Police Service, while Maldives Airports Company Limited was represented by its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. The Maldives National Air Traffic Services was represented by its Managing Director Ibrahim Thoha.

The agreements set out the roles, responsibilities, and procedures to be followed by the police and MNATS in managing emergencies and disasters at Velana International Airport. They aim to improve safety and security at the airport while also enhancing disaster management capacity, communication, and coordination among the institutions involved.

Under the agreements, the Maldives Police Service and MNATS will work closely with MACL to improve operational efficiency during emergency situations, with a focus on preparedness and coordinated response.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Commissioner Naveen said the agreements would strengthen cooperation with MACL and contribute to ensuring the safety of all airport users. MACL’s CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed described the MoU as significant for Velana International Airport, noting that the airport is a critical national facility and that effective emergency preparedness depends on close collaboration between relevant institutions.
