Maldives 2.0 Summit Concludes with National Digital Commitment Presented to President

The ‘Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Summit’ concluded with a ceremonial presentation of the National Digital Commitment to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, marking the end of a three-day conference focused on accelerating the country’s digital transformation.

Held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé, the summit brought together government officials, international delegates, and technology experts to discuss reforms aimed at creating a digitally connected Maldives. The initiative forms a core part of President Muizzu’s broader vision to modernise public services, improve transparency, and raise service standards through accessible technology over the next three years.

Key areas of focus included enhancing cybersecurity frameworks, introducing internationally recognised digital IDs, and establishing a secure data exchange layer for seamless communication between state institutions. Participants also discussed the creation of a sovereign cloud for storing sensitive government data, as well as strategies to expand digital platforms that deliver citizen-focused services.

The summit further emphasised nurturing a tech-savvy generation and fostering local innovation, particularly within the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. The event highlighted the potential for new opportunities for Maldivian professionals and businesses in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

The closing ceremony was marked by the formal presentation of the National Digital Commitment by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, to President Muizzu. The occasion was witnessed by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of Parliament Hon Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Chief Justice Uz Ahmed Muthasim Adnan, and representatives from Estonia, including officials with experience in e-governance systems.

The presence of senior government officials, panellists, and international stakeholders at the summit underscored the Maldives’ ambition to position itself as a forward-looking, digitally enabled island nation.
