
Dr. Salma Rasheed has formally assumed her role as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Austria after presenting her Letters of Credence to Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, Federal President of the Republic of Austria.
The ceremony took place at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. Following the presentation, Dr. Salma met with President Van der Bellen and conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, as well as from the Government and the people of the Maldives, to the Austrian President and the people of Austria.
During the meeting, Dr. Salma recalled the longstanding friendly relations between the Maldives and Austria and expressed her commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including commercial diplomacy and people-to-people engagement.
As part of the visit, Dr. Salma also held meetings with senior officials from Austria’s Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation in multilateral forums.
Dr. Salma was accompanied at the credential ceremony by Aishath Rayahyn, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva.
In addition to her role as Non-Resident Ambassador to Austria, Dr. Salma serves as the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and as Non-Resident Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation.
