The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives hosted the first round of bilateral consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan today. The discussions were led by Her Excellency Fathimath Inaya, Foreign Secretary of the Maldives, and His Excellency Elnur Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malé, the consultations reviewed progress on key agreements and programmes of cooperation between the two nations. Building on discussions held between President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and President Ilham Aliyev during COP29 in Baku last November, the talks focused on enhancing collaboration in several areas, including investment promotion, education, culture, tourism, and connectivity. Both sides also highlighted the importance of fostering people-to-people exchanges and strengthening multilateral cooperation.
Foreign Secretary Inaya and Deputy Minister Mammadov reiterated their commitment to maintaining close engagement to address mutual interests and further deepen the ties of friendship between the Maldives and Azerbaijan.
Deputy Minister Mammadov is leading a high-level Azerbaijani delegation, including representatives from government agencies such as the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) and members of the private sector. During their visit, the delegation will meet with key stakeholders in the Maldivian government to explore potential investment opportunities.
