Maldives and China Agree to Deepen Partnership During Leaders’ Meeting

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday morning at the Tianjin Yingbin Hotel, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation between the Maldives and China.

President Xi welcomed Dr Muizzu and described the visit as a significant step in strengthening the longstanding ties between the two nations. He also expressed appreciation for the Maldivian President’s official visit and underlined China’s readiness to support the Maldives in achieving its development goals.

Dr Muizzu, who is visiting China for the second time in an official capacity, thanked President Xi for the warm invitation and hospitality. He noted the importance of the partnership between the two countries and highlighted the Maldives’ interest in deepening collaboration across multiple areas.

Talks during the meeting centred on economic development, trade and investment, security cooperation, and fostering closer people-to-people ties. Both sides agreed to further elevate their relationship under the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership framework for 2024 to 2028.

The meeting concluded with both Presidents reaffirming their shared vision of strengthening cooperation and advancing mutual interests.
