
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was accorded an official welcome at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, during his ongoing visit to Berlin.
Upon arrival, President Dr Muizzu was received by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The two leaders inspected a Guard of Honour before members of the visiting Maldivian delegation and German officials were introduced. President Dr Muizzu signed the Visitors’ Book at Schloss Bellevue and participated in an official photograph with President Steinmeier.
President Dr Muizzu subsequently paid an official call on President Steinmeier at Schloss Bellevue. The meeting was attended by senior officials from both governments. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation on bilateral and multilateral fronts and enhancing high-level engagement as the two countries mark six decades of diplomatic relations.
The visit, taking place from 9 to 13 February 2026, marks the first official visit by a Maldivian President at the invitation of the President of Germany. It coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany.
In the evening, President Dr Muizzu attended a reception in Berlin commemorating the anniversary. The event brought together members of the Maldivian delegation, senior German government officials, members of the diplomatic corps in Berlin, and Maldivians residing in Germany.
