The Maldivian and Sri Lankan governments have discussed the possibility of a collaborative tourism initiative aimed at strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The proposal was brought up during a meeting between Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad, and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo. The meeting also covered the long-standing diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, which mark their 60th anniversary this year.
High Commissioner Masood Imad congratulated President Dissanayake on his recent electoral victory and expressed his appreciation for the positive developments in Sri Lanka following the election. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to maintaining and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
President Dissanayake acknowledged the Maldives’ contributions to bilateral ties and welcomed further collaboration, particularly in tourism—a key industry for both countries. The details of the proposed initiative were not disclosed, but discussions signalled an interest in deeper cooperation in the sector.
