The Maldives kicked off the new year by welcoming its first tourist of 2025, Mr. Luis from Spain, at a small ceremony at Velana International Airport (VIA). Accompanied by his wife and daughter, Mr. Luis described the Maldives as his “second home,” reflecting the deep bond he and his family have developed with the island nation over the years.
This marks the 11th time the Luis family has visited the Maldives, a destination they hold dear for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and the warm hospitality of its people. Their connection to the islands is a testament to the Maldives’ appeal as a place that feels like home for many.
The Maldives continues to attract a loyal following, with visitors returning time and again for the unique experience it offers. In 2024, the country set a new record by welcoming over two million tourists, and the government is now aiming to increase that number by 15 percent in 2025.
