Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel is currently undertaking an official visit to the State of Kuwait at the invitation of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya. The visit underscores efforts by both nations to reaffirm their longstanding ties and explore new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in trade and development.
Dr Khaleel held discussions with Foreign Minister Al-Yahya, focusing on the deep-rooted relationship between the Maldives and Kuwait, founded on mutual respect and a shared Islamic heritage. The talks also included a review of ongoing partnerships and prospects for future collaboration.
The Maldivian Foreign Minister also met with senior members of the Kuwaiti Government, including the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Minister for Investment, and the Minister of Finance. These engagements centred on expanding economic cooperation and enhancing investment opportunities, particularly in light of Kuwait’s sustained support for key development projects in the Maldives.

The discussion also included expressions of gratitude for Kuwait’s generous assistance to the Maldives, including support through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. This includes funding for the expansion of Velana International Airport and a loan facility provided in 2024 for the Small Island Hospital Development Project.
Sheikh Fahad reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expressed readiness to explore further areas for cooperation. Also present at the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shareeda Abdullah Saad Al-Maousherji, Chief of the Prime Minister’s Diwan Abdulaziz Dakhil Al-Dakhil, and Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Samih Essa Jowhar Hayat.
