Maldives Expected to Hit 2 Million Tourist Arrivals by Thursday, Says Minister Faisal

Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced that the Maldives is on course to welcome its 2 millionth tourist of the year by Thursday, a milestone that highlights the resilience and growth of the nation’s tourism sector.

As of Sunday, the country had recorded 1,978,252 arrivals, putting it within reach of its ambitious target for 2024. Minister Faisal credited the achievement to the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and industry stakeholders.

Recent statistics from the Ministry of Tourism reveal that 103,560 tourists visited the Maldives in the first 17 days of December, reflecting a 2.9% increase compared to the same period last year. With an average of 6,092 daily arrivals this month, the country is set to meet its year-end goal.

The Maldives has already achieved a record 1.9 million visitors so far this year, an 8.8% increase from 2023, bolstered by targeted marketing campaigns and the destination’s enduring global appeal. The arrival of the two millionth tourist will mark a significant moment for the Maldives, reinforcing its standing as one of the world’s premier travel destinations.
