President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the Maldives Expo 2025 Award Ceremony on Thursday evening at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), where he presented accolades to participants ahead of the exhibition’s official opening.
The event marked the culmination of the Expo’s preliminary judging process, with a total of 275 awards distributed across 14 main categories and 82 subcategories. The awards recognised outstanding contributions from individuals, councils, businesses, educational institutions, NGOs, and state-owned enterprises.
While top scorers received the coveted Golden Prize, including entries from Maldives Polytechnic and Cidee’s Kitchen Pvt Ltd, the ceremony largely served as a prelude to what organisers anticipate will be one of the most significant public exhibitions of the year.
Maldives Expo 2025 will open to visitors on Friday evening, 23 May, at 8:30 pm at Central Park, Hulhumalé. The exhibition is set to run until 31 May and aims to celebrate local ingenuity while promoting productivity and economic development.
The decision to host the Expo was taken by President Dr Muizzu in May 2024, based on a recommendation from the Cabinet. It reflects the administration’s intent to revitalise community participation and broaden economic engagement through national showcases of innovation and labour.
This year’s exhibition features an impressive 383 participants from across the country, with entries submitted from islands stretching from Haa Alif to Laamu Atoll. Malé and Thulhaadhoo in Baa Atoll emerged as the most active contributors, underlining the strength of civic involvement in these regions.
More than 3,600 items were submitted for consideration, with the bulk of entries stemming from the manual labour sector. This focus highlights the value placed on skilled craftsmanship and industry among Maldivians, forming the backbone of much of the country’s local enterprise.
The Maldives Expo 2025 is expected to draw substantial public interest as it opens its doors, offering visitors a window into the diversity and depth of Maldivian talent and economic ambition.
