Maldives Eyes 2 Million Visitors, Daily Arrivals Must Surge

As the Maldives approaches the end of 2024, the nation remains focused on achieving its ambitious goal of welcoming 2 million tourist arrivals by year-end. With 1,877,567 visitors recorded as of 7th December, an additional 122,433 arrivals are required to meet this milestone in the remaining weeks of December.

To achieve this target, the daily average arrivals will need to increase significantly. In the first week of December, the Maldives recorded an average of 5,705 arrivals per day. However, to meet the 2 million goal, this average must rise to approximately 8,161 arrivals per day for the rest of the month.

The Maldives has experienced an overall 8.9% growth in tourist arrivals in 2024 compared to 2023, demonstrating the country’s resilience and ongoing appeal as a leading global destination. However, the slight decline of 0.1% in arrivals during the first week of December compared to the same period in 2023 highlights the challenges of sustaining growth during the peak season.

With strategic efforts and peak-season campaigns targeting key markets such as China, Russia, India, and Western Europe, the Maldives is well-positioned to attract additional visitors. Tourism authorities and industry stakeholders remain optimistic about closing the year on a high note, reaffirming the Maldives’ status as a top-choice destination for global travellers.
