As part of a follow-up to high-level discussions initiated during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Baku for CoP29 last November, the Maldives is hosting a delegation from Azerbaijan. The visit, taking place from 13 to 16 January 2025, highlights the strengthening relationship between the two nations.
The key event of the visit was an Information Forum organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives. The forum showcased investment opportunities across various sectors to the Azerbaijani delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr Elnur Mammadov. The delegation included senior government officials and representatives from leading Azerbaijani companies.
Sectors presented during the forum included renewable energy, housing, infrastructure, sustainable tourism, logistics, and aviation. Representatives from Maldivian ministries and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) delivered thematic presentations, highlighting the country’s readiness to welcome Azerbaijani investments.
The forum, moderated by Ambassador-at-Large H.E. Mr Abdullah Hameed, served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration. In his remarks, Ambassador Hameed expressed confidence that the event would inspire new initiatives, foster stronger economic ties, and create lasting connections between the business communities of both nations.
This forum is expected to open doors for enhanced economic collaboration between the Maldives and Azerbaijan, laying the groundwork for long-term partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
