Resorts remained the dominant accommodation choice, accounting for nearly 70% of all arrivals. Guesthouses and safari vessels also maintained a notable share, reflecting the diversification of tourism options across the country.

China Remains the Leading Market

China continued to lead as the Maldives’ top source market, with 39,887 arrivals in January 2025, making up 17.1% of the total. Russia and Italy followed, with 23,512 and 22,162 arrivals, respectively. The United Kingdom, Germany, and India also remained among the top contributors, underscoring the diverse international interest in the destination.

Sector Expansion and Accommodation Growth

As of early February 2025, the Maldives had a total operational bed capacity of nearly 61,997, spread across resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and safari vessels. Resorts accounted for the highest share of accommodation, with 42,254 beds in operation.

Strong Start to the Year

With the first two days of February already recording 18,593 arrivals—a 41% increase over the same period last year—the Maldives’ tourism sector appears poised for another strong year. The continued expansion of flight connectivity, marketing efforts, and a diversified tourism sector are expected to support sustained growth in the months ahead.
