Since its launch in 2024, the Maldives’ Sea-to-Air Cargo Service, operated by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), has successfully handled over 1,078 tonnes of cargo, equivalent to 258 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). This accomplishment highlights the growing role of the service in enhancing global trade connectivity.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation shared the milestone in a recent post on X, noting the significant impact of integrating sea and air transport. By linking maritime and aviation logistics, the service has improved efficiency and strengthened the Maldives’ position in international trade.
Between May and December 2024, the Sea-to-Air Cargo Service brought together multiple international airlines to expand its reach and capacity. Participating airlines include Aeroflot, British Airways, Condor, Emirates, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Gulf Air, and Air India.
The Ministry emphasised its commitment to advancing the country’s logistics sector and driving economic growth through initiatives like this. By focusing on innovation and seamless connectivity, the Maldives aims to solidify its position as a strategic logistics hub.
The achievement reflects the service’s potential to boost the Maldives’ contribution to regional and global trade while supporting local businesses and industries reliant on efficient cargo solutions.
