Maldives Sees Early April Tourism Boost Amid Upward Trend

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in the first five days of April 2025 reached 35,312, marking a 31.5% increase compared to the same period in April 2024, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Tourism. The early surge puts April on track for a stronger month than the past two years if the trend continues.

This significant jump follows an overall upward trajectory in 2025. From January to early April, the Maldives has welcomed 667,730 tourists—a 5.8% increase over the same period last year. Although February saw a slight dip of 1.5% compared to 2024, the other months have outperformed previous years. January rose by 11.7% and March recorded a 4.8% increase in arrivals.

As of 5 April, resorts remain the dominant accommodation type, receiving nearly 70% of all visitors this year. Guesthouses account for 25% of arrivals, while hotels and safari vessels make up the remainder.

China continues to lead as the top source market in 2025, contributing 76,674 visitors, or 11.5% of the total arrivals so far. The UK and Russia follow closely, each with over 70,000 visitors. Other leading markets include Italy, Germany, India, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Poland.

The Maldives currently has over 63,800 beds in operation across 1,193 registered facilities, including resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and safari vessels.

If current trends persist through the rest of April, the Maldives could see one of its strongest performing months for the period, building momentum toward the government’s annual arrival target of 2.3 million visitors.
