The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), along with 45 travel and tourism companies and over 100 representatives, is showcasing the Maldives as the ‘Official Partner Destination’ at ITB China 2024. This prestigious event, held from 27th to 29th May at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, aims to enhance the Maldives’ presence within the Chinese market.
ITB China is a leading trade show focused on the Chinese travel market, bringing together top buyers from Greater China and industry professionals from around the world. The event provides networking opportunities and a state-of-the-art matchmaking system to maximise business opportunities.
MMPRC’s participation as the Official Destination Partner of ITB China 2024 is expected to boost the Maldives’ profile in the Chinese travel sector. This engagement encourages trade and media connections, promoting tourism growth through direct interactions with regional and global travel partners. The Maldives’ stand at ITB China 2024 showcases the rich heritage and vibrant culture of the Maldives, offering visitors a taste of the unique experiences available in the Sunny Side of Life.
Visitors to the Maldives’ stand can engage in one-on-one meetings with key travel trade representatives from the Maldivian tourism sector and other strategic partners. They can also enjoy authentic cultural performances, Dhivehi calligraphy, and local delicacies. MMPRC will conduct media interviews at the stand, further expanding the Maldives’ presence within the Chinese travel industry.
In addition to the main exhibition, Visit Maldives is hosting several events on the sidelines of ITB China 2024, including the “Maldives Media Meet” press conference on the first day. This event connects leading Chinese and global media representatives with the latest information about the Maldives, upcoming events, and relevant tourism policies. An MOU will also be signed between MMPRC and Weixin Pay to enhance collaboration between the two organisations.
The Chinese market is a key source for the Maldives, having reclaimed the top spot following the resumption of direct flights last year. As of 22nd May 2024, the Maldives has welcomed 95,952 Chinese tourists, making up 11.2% of the total market share. MMPRC’s year-round marketing strategy includes collaborative campaigns with tourism stakeholders, media familiarisation trips, targeted marketing with leading publications, strategic outdoor advertising, and cooperative marketing programmes with key airlines.
MMPRC continues to drive tourism growth and solidify the Maldives’ position as a leading travel destination in the region. The corporation employs an integrated 360-degree marketing approach and has appointed PR and trade representation across 15 key global markets, earning international recognition and accolades for its efforts.
