Ministry of Tourism published the monthly tourism statistics for the month of April 2018, which records 539,816 tourist arrivals during the month, which is an incredible growth of 12.7 percent from the same period in 2017.
Statistics reveal that 56 percent of the tourist arrivals in April 2018 were from Europe, whereas Asia & the Pacific region contributed to 36 percent of the tourists count. While 5 percent were from America, 3 percent of the tourist arrivals were from the Middle East followed by only 1 percent from African region.
Tourist arrivals during April 2018 showed that the leading tourist market was from China with a lead of 16 percent, followed by Italy with 9 percent, both UK and Germany with 8 percent followed by Russia with 6 percent.
Bed nights reached an 3,522,497 by the end of April 2018, which was a 14.9 percent increased in comparison to that of April 2017. Average duration of stay has been noted at 6.5 days.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has planned a number of events to promote the destination globally and increase the number of tourist arrivals in 2018.
