Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have continued their upward trend, with the latest figures showing a 7.6 percent increase as of 26 April 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
A total of 806,110 visitors were recorded between January and April this year, up from 749,225 during the same period in 2024. Growth was particularly strong in April, with arrivals rising by 19.6 percent compared to April 2024, despite a slight dip in February’s numbers.
Resorts remain the preferred accommodation type, hosting over 70 percent of visitors. Guesthouses accounted for 24.2 percent, while hotels and safari vessels represented smaller shares. Operational bed capacity also saw a modest increase, with 64,419 beds available across 1,177 tourist facilities as of 26 April.
China, the United Kingdom, and Russia emerged as the top three source markets so far this year, together making up nearly a third of total arrivals. China led with 87,731 visitors, followed closely by the United Kingdom and Russia.
Based on the current daily arrival average of 6,949 visitors, the Maldives is projected to reach one million tourist arrivals for 2025 by the end of May. This milestone would mark a significant point for the tourism sector ahead of the mid-year travel season.
The Ministry’s data signals steady momentum heading into the months ahead, especially as the country anticipates further growth following major infrastructure upgrades, including the completion of the expanded terminal at Velana International Airport.
