The Maldives has recorded 73,935 tourist arrivals as of 9th February 2025, reflecting a 10.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This marks an additional 8,215 visitors year-on-year, continuing the positive momentum seen in the tourism sector. The steady growth highlights the country’s strong appeal among international travellers and the effectiveness of ongoing promotional efforts.

In total, 288,798 tourists arrived in the Maldives during January and the first nine days of February, compared to 259,375in the same period of 2024 and 225,455 in 2023. This translates to an 11.3% growth from 2024 to 2025, reinforcing the Maldives’ position as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. The daily average number of arrivals in February so far is estimated to be 8,215 visitors per day, further indicating sustained interest in Maldivian tourism.

China remains the largest source market in 2025, contributing 49,681 arrivals, making up 17.2% of total visitors. Russia follows with 27,910 arrivals (9.7%), while Italy, the UK, and Germany round out the top five markets. These numbers suggest a shift in tourist demographics, with Italy now ranking third, overtaking the UK, which previously held that position. The continued strong performance of these markets signals a robust recovery in long-haul travel to the Maldives.

Accommodation trends indicate that resorts remain the dominant choice for tourists, accounting for 69.3% of total arrivals. Guesthouses have also maintained a significant share at 25.6%, while safari vessels and hotels make up 2.4%and 2.6%, respectively. The Maldives currently has 1,139 operational tourist facilities, including 177 resorts, 793 guesthouses, 15 hotels, and 154 safari vessels, with a total bed capacity of 61,788. These figures reflect the continued expansion of the country’s hospitality sector to meet growing demand.

The government and industry stakeholders remain focused on improving accessibility, infrastructure, and visitor experiences to sustain this upward trend. With six new resorts expected to open this year, the Maldives aims to expand its tourism offering while maintaining its status as a luxury travel destination. If this growth trajectory continues, 2025 could mark another record-breaking year for Maldivian tourism.
