Maldivian has introduced a Premium Economy class on its flights, assuring passengers that this addition will not lead to changes in economy class fares or reduce the availability of lower-priced seats.
In response to public concerns, Island Aviation, which operates Maldivian, clarified that Premium Economy is a separate class with designated seats and added services. The company emphasised that economy class seats would remain readily available without disruption.
Passengers opting for Premium Economy will benefit from enhanced services designed to improve their travel experience. These include a 25-kilogram baggage allowance, one complimentary date change, and priority check-in. Premium Economy travellers will also have access to the Moonima Lounge in Male’, Dharavandhoo, and Ifuru airports, where meals are provided. Additionally, Premium Economy passengers will receive their baggage first upon arrival.
The airline stated that Premium Economy fares will vary based on travel routes, and bookings are now open through Maldivian’s website, mobile app, and official booking channels. The new class has been introduced alongside Maldivian’s recent fleet expansion, including the acquisition of a wide-body aircraft. The Premium Economy service will commence from 13 April.
