Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has introduced a new addition to its aircraft livery in celebration of the country’s 60th year of independence. The updated design features the phrase “ދިވެހި ރާއްޖެ” (Dhivehi Raajje) in Dhivehi script, serving as a tribute to the nation’s language, heritage, and sovereign identity.
The first aircraft to carry the new design was Maldivian’s Airbus A330, which became the inaugural aircraft to land at the newly opened terminal of Velana International Airport. The moment marked both an operational milestone and a symbolic gesture reflecting national pride.
The commemorative design will be progressively applied across the airline’s fleet, underlining Maldivian’s role as the national carrier and its deep-rooted connection to the country’s identity. The gesture aligns with the broader celebrations of six decades of independence and seeks to highlight the unity and spirit of the Maldivian people.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 26 aircraft, including an A320, A330-200, five ATRs, eight Dash 8s, and eleven DHC-6 Twin Otters. In addition to being the largest domestic carrier, Maldivian also provides international connectivity to destinations such as India and China and operates seaplane services for the tourism sector.
This latest update reinforces Maldivian’s commitment to representing the nation in both visual identity and service, capturing the essence of Maldivian pride at a landmark moment in the country’s history.
