Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has resumed direct flights between Malé and Dhaka, restoring air connectivity between the two capitals after several months of suspension.
The airline had announced in January that it would restart the route in response to strong demand from both Maldivian travellers and the expatriate community living in the country.
Maldivian previously operated regular flights to Dhaka, but the service was suspended in August 2024 following political unrest in Bangladesh. Prior to the suspension, the airline had been operating weekly flights on the route.
The resumed service will now operate twice a week, with flights scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays. According to the airline, the flight schedule includes early morning arrivals in Dhaka, allowing passengers to continue onward journeys more easily.
The airline had earlier noted that restarting the route also coincides with the travel period towards the end of Ramadan, supporting Eid al-Fitr travel plans for residents in the Maldives and expatriates returning to Bangladesh. The service is also expected to provide travel options for Bangladeshi tourists visiting the Maldives.
Maldivian said the route is intended to support connectivity between the two countries beyond the seasonal travel peak, providing year-round travel options between Malé and Dhaka.
Return fares on the route start from USD 399 and include a 30kg checked baggage allowance along with meal service.
Alongside Bangladesh, Maldivian currently operates international flights to India and China, serving five destinations across the two countries. The airline also runs seasonal international flights during peak travel periods.
