Maldivian is expanding its domestic network with the introduction of scheduled seaplane flights to Thoddoo in Alif Alif Atoll, offering a faster air link to an island that has emerged as a key local tourism destination.
The new service, operated by Maldivian, will begin on the 12th of this month, with flights scheduled twice a week on Thursdays and Saturdays. One-way fares have been set at MVR 799, with a flight time of approximately 20 minutes.
Thoddoo has seen a steady rise in visitor numbers in recent years, driven largely by the growth of guesthouse tourism. Until now, access to the island has relied primarily on sea transport, making travel time dependent on weather and sea conditions. The addition of a scheduled seaplane service shortens the journey considerably and provides a more predictable option for both visitors and residents.
The airline said the route is intended to improve travel convenience while supporting the continued development of local tourism. By strengthening air links between the capital and inhabited islands such as Thoddoo, Maldivian aims to broaden domestic connectivity beyond traditional resort focused routes.
The launch reflects a wider shift towards improving access to islands with established tourism activity, as demand grows for quicker and more flexible domestic travel options.
